““The dance of life has led me to working with clay””
CERAMIC ARTIST
I was born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1961 and grew up in Shipley, West Yorkshire. I left school at 15 with no formal qualifications and limited skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Despite this, I found my passion in hairdressing, which I thrived in. At 19, I attended a party in Bristol and instantly felt at home—I’ve lived here ever since.
I was fortunate to land a wonderful role as part of the artistic hair team at House of Clive, where I styled catwalk models and worked on hair shows, collaborating in various salons. Throughout my life, I've always had a hub of creative friends, which gave me the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic forms, including fashion, painting, and music, in addition to hairdressing.
At 30, I had my first child, and my second at 35. Around that time, I transitioned to freelance hairstyling and discovered a new passion when I enrolled in a beginner's pottery course at Windmill Hill City Farm, a place I spent lots of time with my young children. Pottery quickly became my new passion, and I spent over 10 years honing my skills through part-time ceramics courses at the Bristol School of Art, under the mentorship of the amazing tutor Ollie Kent.
Over the years, my work has evolved across various forms, from sculpture and slab-building to coil techniques and tile-making. Clay continues to be my primary medium for artistic expression, allowing me to explore its endless possibilities.
